Let's just stop with the "43rd best tackle" crap. That's complete garbage, and it's yet another example of why I don't like PFF.

I saw 4 tackles last night you can scratch off the list of being better than Long.

Here's the thing: when you're a non QB who's the top pick of the draft and your contract is so ginormous the commissioner starts publicly griping about it and it serves as the tipping point that gets all rookie contracts reduced, making the Pro Bowl from day one is the bare MINIMUM of what you should be doing.

And under those circumstances if a player ever slips below perennial Pro Bowl level, then he damn sure doesn't deserve to get paid anywhere near what that rookie contract was worth, let alone receive a RAISE.

Oh, I completely agree with that. I'm just pointing out that I think PFF's rankings are worthless.

It's a rating to right now, also, which means nothing really. Let's see where he ranks at Week 17.

Not only has Long, 27, allowed three sacks in four games, but Pro Football Focus ranks his run blocking fouth-worst among 71 tackles...

umm, that would make him the 68th ranked run blocking tackle - which would put him behind some of the team's backups.

and while i don't necessarily agree with the accuracy of these rankings, i don't think it can be argued that his play is up to the standards of...

But he is expected to seek a contract similar to Joe Thomas' seven-year, 84 million deal...

There's no doubt he's having a down year, but there's is NO WAY he's one of the worst tackles in the league.

Jake Long at Joe Thomas salary? Based on his recent performance, that's going to be a tough case for his agent to make.

Absolutely.

There's still a lot of games left this season, but unless Jake miraculously returns to form I just don't think it's in the Phins' best interest to re-sign him to a huge deal. We have too many needs to tie up that kind of money in a lineman IMO.

But make no mistake: Jake will get a huge deal (in Miami or elsewhere) regardless of how he finishes this season. It may not be Joe Thomas $$$, but it won't be chump change. He's still a top 10 tackle, regardless of how PFF ranks him.
