Go get a Honda one. They're great, relatively quiet and put out a lot of power.

I'll wait until after this is over but I think it's time just in case. I'll get the Honda. My dad got one that was overkill so I might get a smaller one for him and take his or just get my own. This is a mess. Everything is sold out and there are waiting lists for the trucks to arrive.

We're looking at getting a residential generator down here in Miami. It's gonna run us about $5K altogether, but in the long run it'll be worth it. When the power goes out at my place down here from a hurricane, because of how the grid is, we're out of power for a minimum of 9 days. Plus, we have transformers blow up a lot, and it gets seriously hot without AC.

Not to jinx myself but the worst was a day and a half during Irene. We went camping a few times and say for an outdoor event it might be good so I'm thinking about a mid-sized one. Just get me through this one OK.

That's what I'm thinking off doing. The one I want runs on propane so I need to find a place to bury the tank. Was it 5K installed or are you doing it yourself? I'm a decent electrician but I think this might be beyond my capabilities.

I didn't know you could get a residential size generator that runs on propane.

I will have to look into that.

As for small generators, I have had one for some time now. It is almost a prerequisite for living in Florida.

A mid size portable generator can run your freezer, fridge and a couple of fans.

A large size portable generator can run your freezer, fridge, a small window A/C unit and a couple of fans.

The gas usage isn't that bad either.

Check out homedepot.com. They have a huge selection.

I got mine on clearance after hurricane season about 5 years ago.

Best time to buy them.
