This is absolutely no surprise to those of us who've been paying attention :)

I'm going to feel so bad for NYF WHEN Long and Starks are both re-signed and he has to face the facts about Ireland at last. Seriously, I will take no joy in it. But if his "Cowardly!!! Cowardly!!!" post draft rant from 2 years ago is any indication, there's some rage in NYF just waiting to come out.

I don't think Miami signs Long unless it's for 7 mil a year. I bet our low ball offer was 6 mil a year.

Long has to know his performance has been horrible recently. He is not exactly in a bargaining position. Is he even healthy?

Exactly what makes this so difficult. By multiple reports, Long is oblivious to the level of his own performance, and is wildly overestimating his value on the free agent market. This is why the tag makes no sense, he has to have the freedom to visit with teams and gauge his own market value. That's the only chance he has of remaining in Miami.

Long - no way would I re-sign him.

Starks - all depends on what he'll accept. My guess is he'll want way too much $, in which case - no way. I have my doubts about Odrick replacing Starks, but it's time for the Phins to start getting smart with their money. Starks is too inconsistent to warrant a huge deal...there's times when he's great, but just as often he's a non-factor.

I'd give Starks 4.5 a year.

I agree with JMP. Long is toast IMO. Re-sign Starks at the right price? I'd consider it, since you can never have enough good D-linemen.

Nice article nyf.

I agree on Long. He should have played himself off the Phins with the general level of suckitude he displayed.

Starks? I just Wonder if Odrick can be as effective inside as Starks?

In any event, draft some younger DTs and get them in the rotation.

Ireland only drafts DTs in the 7th round

Seriously, it's one of his predictable draft day habits, like trading up for a RB or taking an O-lineman with his first pick (unless he's forced by the owner to take a QB instead) or trading down to avoid picking a playmaker by accident.
