LOL.

Rarely does reality and a players opinion of his own worth diverge to such an extent.

$10 million a season is laughable. In fact, $10 million is probably the ceiling on total guaranteed money he will get.

I'll credit Ireland with this: He was accurate when saying the Long contract is going to be a difficult and complicated negotiation. So much so, that I don't see it getting done. At the very least, Long will need to visit multiple teams in order to establish a true market value before he ends up with a Miami contract.

Bernardino just reposted an article he wrote on Day 2 of the 2012 draft. Prognosticator!

My favorite bit from the above link.

You, me, and Jake have 2 things in common.

1. We want to make at least $10 million/year
2. We’re not going to get it from the Miami Dolphins

I'd love to buy Long for what he's worth and sell him for what he thinks he's worth, I might be able to afford to buy the whole team afterwards

Jake wants $10M - that doesn't mean Jake will get $10M. this is just his agent positioning himself for negotiations - you always start with the max knowing you'll have to come down. nonetheless, the bigger concern is whether Jake should even be on the Phins at all considering he doesn't fit the new, more athletic scheme and can't seem to stay healthy.

Phins should be treating him as they do all of their FAs (Long, Hartline, S. Smith, Bush, etc.) whose value to the team and salary demands don't match. let them hit the market to determine their value and then the Phins decide if the player is worth it.

if indeed the market determines that Jake is still worth $10M per year, then let him go get it somewhere else. even if the market sets his price at $5M or $6M, i'm still not sure if he is worth it considering the lack of scheme fit and health.

After seeing the way Long played last season, the question is not how much to pay Long, but rather do the Phins even WANT Long IMHO.

He stunk last season. After Merriman pushed him to ground with one arm, he should have turned in his man card and slunk off the field IMHO!

I say thanks for the service Long, but your services are no longer required.

Completely agree. That would be the smartest way to approach our own free agents, IMO, especially the guys that want big $$$ like Long, Starks, Hartline and Smith.

Not anymore. I don't see anything difficult or complicated about this decision if he wants $10 mil a year. I don't even care whether or not the door hits him in the ass on his way out.
