I would let everyone walk except Hartline, Smith and Bush IF I can get them back at reasonable prices.

I would try my best to sign WR Jennings, TE Keller, or trade for TE Cook (I think he is a RFA).

I would let Fasano go and cut Egnew outright.

I would try and sign OG Kory Lichtensteiger, CB Sam Shields and RB Goodson.

I would go into the draft looking for DE Jarvis Jones, WR DeAndre Hopkins, S Matt Elam, TE Jordan Reed, CB Xavier Rhodes, OT Jordan Mills, OLB Sean Porter, WR Quinton Patton and depth.

I think we are all pretty similar. We vary on who we re sign for sure. But a lot of similarities. Btw. Most mocks I've seen have Ansah going in the 20s which is why I said I think he can be had around 21 or 22. Draft is loaded with first round DEs.

I would dump all free agents and work solely on procuring offensive and defensive linemen in free agency. Then in the first round I'd draft a running back, followed up by two offensive linemen (RT and RG), then project pass rushing specialists, and then in the sixth and seventh rounds cornerbacks. I would make the focus of the team the running game and the trenches.

No, no, I joke, I kid, but in general terms, I would let all our free agents walk if we cannot sign them reasonably. I'd also like to see them get Lichtensteiger and then draft a right tackle in the third somewhere. I'd go WR 1st, DE 2nd - or swap those depending on the board. I'd consider replacing Carpenter as well, and even Fields (even though I like him a lot). I'm thinking if I'm handed the team, I blow it up, keep a couple key pieces, build around Tannehill with one major free agent, perhaps Jennings, although if I'm blowing it up, I may not worry about a big name this season.

Essentially, I don't think the core of the team is very good. So if I were REALLY GM, I'd go for a full-on rebuild. This season you get a mix of playmakers and core guys in the draft, getting ABILITY HIGH and VALUE LOW, something we have had backwards in our philosophy (but not so much in the execution department).

I think we're currently about 6 players away from being a playoff team, but not a winning playoff team. I think we're 20 or more players away from being a Super Bowl team. We're currently stocked with meh and a few gems. We need half a dozen gems and a bunch of wow, and very little meh.

Those, of course, are technical terms .

So, my final analysis is, we can become a playoff team that's okay but doesn't win it all and eventually has to rebuild anyway, or blow the mutha up now and put it back together the right way. This should have been done at least 3 years ago, and this season should be about winning. Instead we're filling holes and hoping for the best.

20 players? I tend to disagree with this statement. We cannot have Pro Bowlers at every single position. 5 or 6 players away? Absolutely. Maybe even 7 or 8 players away. But if we work the draft and free agency correctly this year, and if Tannehill is the "Man" Like we all hope he is, then I think we will be much closer then some of you think.

We all see this team in a similar light. We lack quality skill positions. Add those and 7-9 could easily become 10-6, 11-5.

The core of this team is quite young. Some of these guys will take the next step, like Jones did this past season. Some will just be average, or slightly below. You can't rebuild the roster every 3 years. You have to grow from within. Philbin has said as much. He believes in developing players, and for good reason. It's easier to develop them then to replace them every few years.

If they can address the skill positions with viable solutions, and Tannehill steps up his game, then there is no reason to believe we cannot at the very least contend for the division title.

If they can also solve their pass rush issue on the right side, and find a quality CB maybe they go further.

It's all conjecture, and a lot of what -ifs-, but it is just as possible as 1-15 if they blow up the roster.

We DO have the "Core-solid player base". Now, we just need to add the top end talent aka playmakers in the playmaking positions. Easier said than done, but with the amount of cap space and draft picks we have, it is not inconceivable that we make a big jump this year.

Put it this way, we won 7 games with what we had last year. How much better do we need to be to, at the very least, legitimately contend for a playoff spot? I know we want more than just "contending", but I will take that amount of improvement NEXT year.

As we go on, "contending for playoffs" will not get it done, but I can live with that next year as long as we see the team taking the proper steps to go deep into the playoffs and eventually take home the ultimate prize.

The biggest x factor IMO is the play of Tanny. He must take that next step from rookie to team leader/playmaker. If that does not happen, it does not matter who they bring in to help him make plays.

We won 7 games and were 2 missed FGs from 9 wins and playoff contention. That's a lot better than 20 players away IMHO...

True, but there were also a couple games we won (St, Louis/Seattle) that just as easily could have gone the other way. But the point is, we are not that far away. We are still a 6 to 8 win team as presently constituted. Three or four game improvement gets us in the playoffs.
