Long's original contract had 30mil guaranteed. It was based on 11 million per year over five years. I'm not sure what incentives he had to reach the full potential of his contract. Does anybody know how much his actual pay was during his first five years?

If Miami does sign Long, how much is he worth? Is a 4 year deal feasible at the price Miami values him at? I think his 10million per year is way off what I see his value. I wouldn't pay him more than his guaranteed money from his original contract. 6 million per year, 4 years.

I'm not convinced that Jake a. fits this offense and b. can stay healthy for 16 games. I wouldn't sign him at all, at any price. I think his best days are behind him - time to move on.

Agreed.

With Hartline, we have been debating the price of re-signing him, while generally agreeing it makes sense to do so if he can be signed to a reasonable deal.

With Long, the debate is not about price, in my opinion. Fans seem to be split on whether he is worth a starting spot, or not.

I'm with JMP. Injuries have taken their toll on Long, unfortunately. I just do not think he will ever recover to 100%, and even if he does, it will be temporary until he gets "dinged up" again.

Sorry Jake, we need to move in a different direction.

Too many injuries back, to back which is pretty predictable when a player doesn't take the required time to fully heal. Jake is a warrior, and I believe that works against him as he is not physically able to keep up with his desire to play. With a lineman it is all about movement, quickness, and leverage. Without being fully healthy your body has to strain, and compensate elsewhere which causes further injury. Sad how this all began is a stupid pre-season game he never should have been playing in.

Just my 2c. I think if he took a year off he'd come back full strength. Probably not very practical when your salary is that high, and are a #1 overall draft pick. Time to cut ties.

Long looked AWFUL last season.

If they think Martin can take over at LT I say spend the money elsewhere.

Its not like OT is the WR position, where the Phins NEED to over spend to.....

Sorry... Off topic warning to me.

:D

The guy was a Warrior. But he shot his load. I think a 25 Million 4 yr deal with incentives is all he's worth anymore.

Jake is a great player and will find his footing elsewhere. Next year, hopefully he can mend, but it's not going to be with us.
